Farming for the Future Forum – Fitzroy Basin Association Event

FBA has pulled together some of the best minds in Australian agriculture to help central Queensland farmers improve their pasture, soil and animal health.
This three-day forum will help Fitzroy farmers make changes to improve their businesses’ productivity and resilience with regenerative agriculture practices. Carefully designed, the forum allows attendees to learn new skills, find the right solution for their property and head home with a plan.
Day 1 (19 July |10am – 6pm)
Learn from the best and network | Guest speakers will introduce key challenges, concepts, and solutions. Mingle with fellow farmers, guest presenters and extension professionals.
Day 2 (20 July | 8am – 5pm)
Results in action | Visit local properties that are successfully practising regenerative agriculture.
6:30pm – 9:30pm
Dinner discussions | Experts share insights over dinner.
Day 3 (21 July | 8am – 3pm)
Apply knowledge and head home with a plan | Put new skills into action with the help of guest speakers, peers and extension experts.
Topics include:
- The challenges facing Australian and CQ Agriculture
- Soil sponge – how the water and carbon cycles interact
- Soil health and pasture degradation (the pasture dieback story)
- Addressing soil and pasture challenges
- How to overcome the challenge of farming with less rain
About some of the guest presenters:
Walter Jehne | Co-founder of Regenerative Earth
Walter Jehne is an internationally recognised soil microbiologist and innovator. He has field and research experience in soils, grasslands, agriculture and forests at local, national and international level. Walter’s specialisation is the role of soil microbes’ symbiotic processes in the ecology of diseases, plant health, nutrient and waste cycling, soil pedogenesis and the regeneration of bio-systems.
Dr Gundi Rhoades | Practice Owner of Gowrie Vet Clinic
Gundi Rhoades is a German veterinarian living in Australia and she has been practising her profession for 30 years. As the owner of an organic farm and a nutritionist, she is passionate about the link between soil and human health. Gundi has a deep understanding of the agriculture industry as well as the health effects associated with chemical farming.
Peter Andrews OAM | Agricultural pioneer
Peter Andrews OAM is a farmer and a race horse breeder from Bylong in the Upper Hunter Valley. He is a man who many believe is way ahead of his time. He has applied insights of the natural functioning Australian landscape to restore his and other properties.
