Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program – Round 8

13 October, 2020

The Australian Government has announced the opening of Round 8 of the Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program as part of its commitment to enhancing the safety and accessibility of airstrips in remote areas of Australia.

This grant opportunity opened for applications today and closes on 12 November 2020. This follows the release on 1 October 2020 of the Grant opportunity guidelines Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program

The objectives of this grant opportunity are to enhance the safety and accessibility of aerodromes in remote and very remote areas of Australia. Safe, operational aerodromes are vital in the delivery of essential goods and services in remote and very remote communities, particularly where road access is unavailable, unreliable or disrupted for extended periods due to seasonal weather conditions.

The intended outcomes are to improve safety and air access for remote airstrips that will improve the safety of aircraft, operators and passengers; facilitate improved delivery of essential goods and services; and complement air service delivery to communities subsidised under the Australian Government’s RAAP through the RASS Scheme; and meet operational requirements of the RFDS or other operators providing similar aeromedical services.

There is up to $7 million available over 2020-21 to 2021-22. Minimum grant is $5,000 and maximum grant is $500,000.
